We recently loaned several laptops acquired through grant money to St Dominic and St Mary schools for the use of their students during the final portion of the school year. The laptops were acquired through generous grants from Western Kansas Community Foundation and The Finnup Foundation.
Great Plains Makerspace, in participation with St. Catherine Hospital and other area medical centers, is coordinating efforts in acquiring and fabricating supplies to help with the fight against COVID-19.
If you have skills, equipment, materials that you can contribute, or any interest in helping, please fill out the form HERE so we can include you in our efforts. This will help us make specific requests based on each person’s abilities.
Firstly, a HUGE thanks to GCCC for the use of their Mobile Lab. All our demos and crafts would have been much more difficult, if not impossible, without it. If you find yourself in need of a quick pop up space with great facilities, you should definitely talk to them about it.
Secondly, thanks to everyone who stopped by to check out our little corner of Fall Fest. Our goal is to create a community-oriented organization and it’s encouraging to get so much positive feedback from the community.
We had a great time showing off some of the tools that will be available to members and talking to the community about what the Maker Space is all about, as well as what they would be interested in seeing in the future. Among these tools were our 3D Printers, which were a huge hit with kids and adults alike, and a laser cutter/engraver, which spent the day making plaques for the kids. We also had Yuriy and Sarah out to demo their Vex robotics and talk to people about the various robotics programs in town, and get a birds-eye view from their drone.
For the kids, we also had crafts including popsicle stick catapults, Bristlebot races, Paper Rocket Launches, and engraved name plaques.
We are ready for another season of GEAR robotics! GEAR robotics is for girls in grades 3-8 interested in developing creative problem solving skills by designing and competing robots. We will kick things off with a workshop and orientation to this years game. We are not limiting the number of participants, but so we can better prepare, we ask that you register for this workshop at the following link: shorturl.at/dBOU1
